Hello from Mrs. Handyman

ree

Hello, I'm Michelle Duncan aka Mrs. Handyman. You can call me Michelle. Before I jumped into blogging about home repairs, I thought we should get to know each other a little first. So, here's a little about me. I met David (Mr. Handyman) by sheer chance on Valentine's Day of 2013. That night we talked for 5 hours about life, family, and great sci-fi television. When I bought my first house a few months later, I discovered the extent of Dave's skills when he installed can lights in my living room, moved the light switch to my patio, put French patio doors in where previously there were only windows, changed out my faucets, replaced my bathroom vanity light, re-did the flooring in the master bedroom, and made the best pancakes on the face of the planet. In short, he started spoiling me from the very beginning.

After two years, we were married. After three, we welcomed our daughter into the world, and 3 years after that my son joined the family. Now we have 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 fish tanks, and a house full of love and chaos.

You may be wondering why the first blog on this page is from the handyman's wife. My husband loves helping people and working with his hands. I love helping people, writing, researching, and creating complicated spreadsheets. So, he makes repairs while I write and make complicated, and often unnecessary, spreadsheets.

I'd like to tell you a little about the love of my life. Dave spent 13 years in the Navy. While serving, he repaired fighter jets onboard Navy ships (where he learned the ins and outs of electrical work). He also trained with the Navy Seals, survived the infamous Hell Week, and, sadly, was injured a week before finishing training. When he got out of the Navy, he worked on Gulf Stream jets, then moved into construction, then medical equipment repair, and finally home repair. His love language is acts of service and those acts bring him great joy. He expresses this love language two ways: fixing things, and making delicious food. As I write this, the smell of pot roast has drifted up the stairs to tantalize me. With Dave around, rarely is someone allowed to leave our house without a full belly, and a Tupperware container full of leftovers.

We decided to open this business because Dave was tired of being asked to cut corners and produce sub-quality work in order to maximize profit for landlords. After reviewing the numbers (yay spreadsheet!) we realized that we didn't need to compromise quality or affordability as long as we were willing to do 1 thing: NOT BE GREEDY! It was as simple as that. If Dave worked hard to make a fair wage, then we could offer quality home repairs at an affordable price. And Love Your Home Repairs was born!!

We've been in business for a little over a year now staying true to our values while we connecting with, and serving, the community. Further, our hypothesis is proving true. If you aren't greedy, you can make enough to care for your family while also taking care of (rather than ripping off) your customers.

I'll be writing more blogs in the future. These will be full of facts around home maintenance, home repair, when to use (and when not to use) a handyman. These facts will come from my in-depth research and Dave's handy-know-how.

We hope you'll join us on this journey, and let us know when and how we can serve you.
